The community of El Muyuyo in the Province of Manabi in Ecuador currently suffers from a chronic shortage of fresh water. The community was recently affected by a 7.8 magnitude earthquake which destroyed its water infrastructure. El Muyuyo does not have a well and it is not located near any natural freshwater sources. Currently each community resident is forced to buy water and import it to the village at a high cost. The Female population has expressed the most discontent because they spend the majority of their time procuring water and transporting it to their place of residence.
The priority is implementing a sustainable water supply solution which includes. Fully understanding the specifics of the water supply landscape in the region. Identifying and analyzing feasible options for water procurement and conveyance. Implementing the appropriate water supply system. Create a community partnership to equitably operate and maintain the water distribution system.
