After completing his undergraduate studies at Harvard in 1977, he spent a year working in a missionary hospital in Ecuador. He has continued working in Ecuador ever since. David studied on the Medicine School at UCLA where he is also been part of the teaching body for 7 years. With many projects carried out, on 2013, his work was awarded with the International Educator of the Year prize.

David is currently leading the global health program at ETSU School of Medicine and constantly supporting the education and development of young indigenous people on Ecuador.

He was a member of the EIA-USA board of directors and lend a helping hand to start EIA-Ecuador.
