The nine benefited communities are in the upper area of Rocafuerte and belong to the rural area of the canton. Thanks to the agricultural vocation of these lands, the main economic activity of most of the population is linked to the cultivation of corn and peanuts. However, since there are no permanent sources of water in this area, the planting time depends on the water that is only available during the rainy season.
The scarcity of water, in addition to being a factor that affects the health of the community, deepens the bad economic situation as families must spend around 40 dollars a month for the water they acquire from tankers and jerry cans.
Infrastructure component for water source:
Construction of base plate to support the water treatment plant and auxiliary infrastructure (cellar, bathroom, enclosure, protection wall).
Installation of 400 meters of first distribution line for the community of El Moyuyo community with 15 household connections.
Health component:
WASH and TANDAS workshops and trainings.
Development of home hand washing stations.
Delivery and placement of portable hand washing stations in the centers of each community.
Workshops and trainings in community health and first aid.
Delivery of hygiene kits, first aid kit, household and personal hygiene kit, delivery of supplements for safe water storage.
